Don't look now, but the L-Trains might have the pitching staff they thought they drafted last year.
Despite being significantly outnumbered in total starts at the beginning of the week, the L-Trains won K's and Wins pretty easily thanks to outstanding outings from Danks, JJ, and add-of-the-week Micheal Pineda. Cliff Lee's masterful 99 pitch 12 K CG SHO put the exclamation mark on the L-Trains stellar pitching week. No other team came close in Ks or the rate stats. The L-Trains were once again nearly doubled up in RBI and HRs, but won just about everything else in their matchup with the unfortunate Dynasty. The L-Trains won the Best of the Week Award and rolled into first place.
Meanwhile, there's trouble on the South Side. The Hit Men lost their second straight matchup and have lost at a great expense- they have used 10 adds and are on pace to run out of adds by Week 15. Also in trouble are the 0-2 Giant Killers. The GKs avoided a monumental blow out with a Wang Sunday collapse, but saw their power numbers disappear in Week 2. Ian Kinsler and Carlos Santana combined for 2 total hits this week. The GKs lost 8-4 to Troy Tulowitzki (oh and the Wangs) and two of the categories they won were ERA (4.46) and WHIP (1.38) - ouch.
In the other matchup, the Ozzie Guillens lost thier matchup and keeper Josh Hamilton for 6-8 weeks when he decided a head first slide into home was a good idea. The Trolley Dodgers held on to win a tight 6-4 matchup despite being the second worst team this week. Another week, another Trolley Dodger Award for the TDs (2-5, .458).... The TDs and the L-Trains are the only remaining unbeaten teams.
Week 3 features playoff semi-final rematches as the Wangs battle the first place L-Trains and The Giant Killers meet The Dynasty to see who will be in last place after heading into Week 4.
