The most important day of the fantasy baseball season has come and gone. Here is my completely unbiased review of the events that took place on Sunday:
- If you didn’t notice, the L-Trains and Giant Killers have a combined zero closers and yes that was intentional. Congratulations, you will all beat me in a category this year.
- The Ozzie Guillens think they need 3 centerfielders and still do not believe that everyone else in the league hates Ichiro and the Cubs.
- Brian’s Fellows will lead the league in strikeouts… by offensive players – Adam Dunn, Mark Reynolds, Carlos Pena, oh my.
- The Wangs were not allowed to draft Joe Nathan, but they were allowed to draft the Nard Dogg, Chein-Ming Wang, Zach Duke, and Ryan Dumpster.
- The Giant Killers decided to gamble with both their 2nd and 3rd round picks on question marks Wright and Reyes AND selected the likes of Jayson Werth and Ben Zoburst before taking a single starter. Almost every player on the GKs has 20 SB potential though so they got that going for them.
- The Dynasty went with the upside of Evan Longoria over the guaranteed production of Ryan Howard. If they get second half 2009 Longoria, that could be a big mistake.
- The Trolley Dodgers decided that (like the real Dodgers) they didn’t need a second baseman- even when a real good one was available 8 rounds after he should have been taken. They also don’t have a shortstop again this year.
- The South Side Hit Men put their faith in the hands of the White Sox Savior Gordon Beckham in Round 8. I would love this pick except that Ryan Zimmerman was still on the board and the Hit Men already had Kinsler playing 2B.
- And now for the L-Trains… Once again we will win it all this year by only drafting players who will hit at least 20 hrs and pitchers with high k/9 ratios. I’ll be doing an L-Trains team preview later in the week to explain in more detail why my team is the best.
